In the face of an obstacle which is impossible to

overcome, stubbornness is stupid.

~ Simone de Beauvoir

We may wonder why a door seems to have closed. Our

paths are confounded only when our steps have gone

astray. Doors do not close unless a new direction is called

for. We must learn to trust that no obstacle is without its

purpose, however baffling and upsetting it may seem.

Our own faith is strengthened each time we offer our services to

God and to a friend in need. What may frighten us seems

less important the closer we are to the people in our lives.

One has to grow up with good talk in order to form

the habit of it. If you are in touch with a child today or tomorrow,

or any day -- practice and teach good talk.

This attractive salad looks just great when you assemble it in a clear glass bowl.

This is a salad that must be made about 8 hours before serving,

which makes it very convenient for church suppers and potlucks when

you don't have time for a lot of last-minute preparations.

Yield: 10 to 12 servings

  • 1 head lettuce, torn in bite-size pieces
  • 1 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 package (10 ounces) frozen peas, thawed
  • 2 cups mayonnaise (low-fat mayonnaise can be used)
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 6 slices bacon, fried crisp and crumbled
  • 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese

Place the lettuce in the bottom of a clear salad bowl. On top of the lettuce,

layer the pepper, celery, onion, and peas in that order. Spoon the mayonnaise

over the top to cover and seal the vegetables. Sprinkle the sugar,

bacon, and cheese on top. Cover tightly with plastic wrap

and refrigerate for 8 hours before serving.

Use them to sprout seeds. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place

seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie

until they sprout.

He brought them out of darkness and the

deepest gloom and broke away their chains.

Psalm 107:14
