Summer Solstice

The summer solstice heralds the beginning of summer.

The timing of the solstice depends on when the Sun reaches its

farthest point north of the equator. This occurs annually on

June 20 or June 21 in North America, depending on your time zone.

The word solstice is from the Latin solstitium, from sol (sun)

and stitium (to stop), reflecting the fact that the Sun appears

to stop at this time (and again at the winter solstice). In

temperate regions, we notice that the Sun is higher in the

sky throughout the day, and its rays strike Earth at a more

direct angle, causing the efficient warming we call summer.

In the winter, just the opposite occurs: The Sun is at its southernmost

point and is low in the sky. Its rays hit the Northern Hemisphere at an

oblique angle, creating the feeble winter sunlight.

Ah, summer, what power you have

to make us suffer and like it.

~Russel Baker

If a June night could talk, it would

probably boast it invented romance.

~Bern Williams

What is one to say about June, the time of

perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise

of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign

to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.

~Gertrude

There shall be eternal Summer

in the grateful heart.

~Celia Thaxter

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the

grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water,

or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.

~John Lubbock

Happy Summer everyone. It is officially here today and our weather

sure is living up to the day. Temp is to be 89. As I complete my page today,

the sun is out bright and it is a beautiful morning. Bless this day and every

day - as they are gifts. All we have to do is open them.

Join me again tomorrow and thank you for stopping by today.

Be safe and always aware of everything and

everyone around you!

Summer is the time when one sheds one's tensions with one's clothes,

and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit.

A few of those days and you can become drunk with

the belief that all's right with the world.
