Get Ready for the New Year!
Information obtained from The Old Farmer’s Almanac
Ruler
of new beginnings, gates and doors, the first hour of the day,
the
first day of the month, and the first month of the year,
the Roman god
Janus gave January its name.
He was pictured as two-headed and situated so that one
head
looked forward into the new year while the other took a retrospective
view.
Janus also presided over the temple of peace,
where the doors were opened only during wartime.
It was a place of safety, where new beginnings and renewed
commitments could be forged, just as the new year is a time for us to
reflect.
In
the words of our founder, Robert B. Thomas, “Begin the new year square
with every man.“

Getting things accomplished isn't nearly as
important as taking time for love.

A cheerful giver does not count the cost of what she
gives. Her heart is set on pleasing and cheering
the one to whom the gift is given.

My friends are an oasis to me, encouraging
me to go on. They are essential

Let us give all that lies within us .... to pure praise,
to pure loving adoration, and to worship from a
grateful heart - a heart that is trained
to look up.

Bacon Cocktail wieners
1 pound sliced bacon, cut into thirds
1 (14 ounce) package beef cocktail wieners
3/4 cup brown sugar, or to taste
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F
Refrigerate 2/3 of the bacon until needed.
It is easier to wrap the wieners with cold bacon.
Wrap each cocktail wiener with a piece of bacon
and secure with a toothpick. Place on a large baking sheet.
Sprinkle brown sugar generously over all.
Bake for 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until the
sugar is bubbly. To serve, place the wieners in a slow
cooker and keep on the low setting.
