Today I kick off my holiday Daily Doses.

Plan on lots of festive graphics, links,

holiday music and just holiday goodness and cheer.

Thank you for spending some time with me each day.

Welcome to the month of

Below information gathered from the Farmer's Almanac

Determined to brighten the darkest month of the year,
people since ancient times have created festivals
of light and ceremonies of renewal.

This year, Christmas Day—December 25—falls on a Sunday.
Here is a short review of
Christmas Day history.

The 8-day festival of
Chanukah begins at sundown on the 20th,
and the Winter Solstice follows on the 22nd.

The month of
December has long lost its original meaning
of “ten” (decem), for the old Roman calendar’s
tenth month, and now is more synonymous with “decorate.”

The Yule log, evergreens,
colored glass ornaments, wassail bowl—all
of these have antecedents lost in time but
are designed to make the season bright.

It’s possible that more
cookies are baked this month than
in all other months combined, and we’re certain that
more eggs are nogged, more holiday plants bloom, more
greeting cards are addressed, and more snowflakes are cut out of paper.

December has 31 days

Birthstone: Turquoise, Zircon

Hark, how all the welkin rings,
“Glory to the King of kings”;
Peace on Earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.

~ Charles Wesley (1707-88)

I quote others to better express myself

If it's nothing more than a smile - give
that away and keep on giving it.
~ Beth Brown

The home should be a warm sanctuary from the storms
of life for each member of the family. A haven of love and
acceptance. Not only children, but husbands
and wives need this security.
~ Gigi Graham Tchividjian

It is always good to know, if only in passing,
a charming human being. It refreshes our lives
like flowers and wood and clear brooks.
~ George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans)

Where reasons are given, we don't need faith.
Where only darkness surrounds us, we have
no means for seeing except by faith.
~ Elisabeth Elliot

We live by faith, not by sight.
~ 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV

When we live life centered around what others like, feel and say, we lose touch
with our own identity. I am an eternal being, created by God. I am an
individual with purpose. It's not what I get from life, but
who I am, that makes the difference.
~ Neva Coyle
